Question by Matt: What are these Small Flying Brown Insects on my closet walls?
They are about 1/3 of an inch in length. No long antennas. They fly. When not flying they look like a long slim piece of rice, but light brown. They are a slim in length shape. Their color is close to a caramel color, but maybe light browner. Really close to the middle layer of this toffee: http://www.coraleecandies.com/marketplace/images/productphotos/toffee.jpg

There was one, then I killed it, then there two and I kill them, then there were 3 and I killed them. It seems to stay steady between 1-3 per day that I wake up too. They don’t get on my clothes, they are either on the ceiling or the walls and they seem to just migrate to my closet.

I’d really like to know what these are so that I can prevent a big breakout of them. I live in utah in the downtown area. I’ve never seen these bugs outside on the walls of the condominium building. I am really confused to what they are.

I have had cedar balls in my closet for a while now(months). Also a cedar block hanging. These don’t look like moths, their wings are much slimmer than a moth.

Question by melala: How to combat closet odor?
I just moved into a new apartment and noticed a weird smell when I first moved in. They replaced all of the carpeting and one of my friends said it was probably new carpet smell that would eventually go away. The smell went away in all of the apartment except for my bedroom closet and the hall closet, which both have carpeting in them. I currently have small cedar blocks hanging in the closets and they are not working. I also spray room freshener in there as well, but it eventually wears off. I keep the closet door open quite a bit to air them out but the smell is still there. I live at the basement level in the apartment, so I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Any suggestions?

Apart from the usual things such as pot pourri,lavender sachets etc I would try sprinkling some carpet deodoriser in the bottom of the closet & leave it for a few days,also one of those closet camel things that absorb all the moisture in the closet.

Question by harasezltoh: How do I make my closets keep the cedar scent?
I have the cedar blocks that hang in the closet but it doesn’t seem to last long. I don’t want the whole house to smell like it but i would like for it stay “cedar-smelling” in the closet.
Are there any better methods for getting the cedar smell? I’ve seen ceday balls and sprays……what have you used that you really like?

You lightly sand them with fine grit sandpaper and then soak them in cedar oil. I do this every now and again, but let them thoroughly dry before hanging them. You can buy cedar oil at pet stores near the bedding, at some discounters and I think I got this last bottle at Foster Smiths vet catalog. It comes in a spray bottle but I submerge my blocks in a shallow container on both sides and lay them out on cookie cooling racks with papertoweling underneath until I don’t feel the oil on them anymore.
