lining my closets with the thin veneer rolls of cedar that are sold to line dresser drawers?
I live in a place where the moth & their eggs are rampant. I don’t have the $ $ to actually have my three closets lined with cut cedar and i want to use the veneer if it will work. If it won’t i don’t want to waste the money.
Any other ideas about how to keep the moth eggs & larvae off my fabrics? I’ve lost vintage berets and silk items.
Thanks for helping.

I too have struggled with moths and their damage over the years. First off, moths almost always lay eggs where some soil exists on a wool or silk item. So make sure everything is as clean as possible all the time. Well, everything wool or silk.
The cedar helps and is a repellent, but even with solid cedar walls, you have to sand it lightly every so often so it will release it’s fragrance. So if the veneer is too think to sand at all, it might not do much good esp if you already have eggs on the items.
You can still buy the hanging strips called No Pest Strips at large groceries and hardware stores, also online. About 5 bucks a pop. Buy them and hang in your closets, they do not smell like mothballs, or much of anything for that matter so that is good. Just do not hang them in your bedroom, kitchen etc…just closets.
There is a very good smelling moth killer and egg killer that used to be sold at expensive department stores in an orange and black can…it is prob still around. You can spray it directly on clothes lightly..
.but I have found you a great article, see link below.

Question by Carri: How can I clean my cedar lined dresser drawers?
I have a dresser that my parents purchased in 1954. The drawers are cedar lined and it’s in excellent shape…I’ve used this dresser for 15 years now. I moved from California to Upstate NY during the summer of 2005 and the mover put my things in storage for me (because my family and I traveled for 4 months before landing in NY). The mover didn’t cover any of my belongings with sheets or otherwise and my stuff was in storage for 9 months before I bought a house. Now my dresser drawers don’t keep anything fresh. I wiped them down with a wet cloth and even sprayed them with essance of cedar, but after a month my clothes end up smelling very stale and old (like sheets that have sat in an old closet for way too long). This was never an issue before, so I’m assuming the drawers must have absorbed dust and what-not. My clothes (esp my sweaters) used to smell fresh…with a light hint of cedar…before my dresser was in storage. Please help!

PULL OUT ALL OFF THE DRAWERS . TAKE THEM OUT SIDE OR INTO THE BASEMENT. BUY SOME 180 GRIT SAND PAPER, SAND ALL THE CEDER PARTS. THIS WILL BRING BACK THE SMELL OF CEDER..
