I’ve got two $ 500.00 suits I need to protect. I’m already using cedar hangers. Will moth balls cause my suits to smell of moth balls? I cleaned all the clothes. Is there an alternative method to moth balls?

I usually castrate the closet moths when I catch them and add to my collection of moth balls.

Question by BrandonThomasWasHere: How the bloody hell do I get rid of these moths?
Okay, I live in Colorado, and every spring moths become a big issue. These aren’t food moths, and I’ve yet to find any traces on clothing. Mostly, they just accidentally get in through the front door as someone walks in. But it’s getting ridiculous. I’ve already killed nine today, and I know there’s at last two more in the house, and this has been one of the quieter days of the last week. I don’t wanna use mothballs, cuz they smell bad, they’re toxic, and this is only about a month long issue. But not much seems to be working. I read somewhere that they hate herbal smells, so I put clove and rosemary oil about everywhere I could. Then about five came out of hiding and went to the nearest window, but now it doesn’t seem to do much. I have a cedar bar in my closet, but it’s about two years old. However, i haven’t found a moth in there.

I hate moths, they are so annoying. I’m always worried they are going to lay eggs and eat my clothes. (My very favorite jacket was already RUINED by moths over night.)
So I found moth traps at Walmart Supercenter. They work like a charm!!! They are all natural, non-toxic too.
It looks like this: http://www.doyourownpestcontrol.com/ProPest_Pheronet.JPG
The inside is all glue. When the moths land, they get trapped there forever. And they are attracted to the trap because it has mating scents inside. So they all flock there. Every morning there is tons more moths in the trap. (I also bought the same thing, but for spiders. In BC, we get monstrous-sized spiders running on the floor. The trap works great for them too.)

Question by Curtis M WINS! FLAWLESS VICTORY!: About wool clothing and moths.?
I know how to store wool clothing…but…what about the business person who wears wool suits daily. How do you keep moths out of your closet? Is it safe to use mothballs in a non-airtight container ie a closet? Also, I had a cedar closet at my old house and never had issues, but I know friends who’ve tried strips of cedar and lavender etc and it plain didn’t work (smelled nice though) so I’m looking more for answers that aren’t heavily based on “natural” methods. Thanks!
Thanks Chetco…I’m gonna go vomit now…thinking about a darn moth on my neck lol! Btw, I don’t have any issues now, but I want to avoid them! Those suit bags look like a good idea but I would be afraid they’d be on the garment already…one of my friends (with the cedar strips) tried the space bags, a few months later he noticed “dust” on the bottom of the bag (aka moth droppings after they had feasted)! I would absolutely cry if that happened to one of my favorites! (Yes I’m being sarcastic…mostly)

I’m too old to believe in anything except mothballs, and cedar; but, why not try asking the retailer, or the dry cleaner?

Question by urfussc: I purchased cedar wood chips from the pet section of a store. Are these wood chips good for repeling moths?
The package reads that these chips are good for pets’ enviroment, i.e. dog houses, gerbels’ homes, etc. I want to use these chips to put in my closet to keep moths out. Are these the same type of chips that are used for that purpose?

Question by Mitch S: Why do i have moths in my house during the winter. All closets are cedar. And they just keep coming?
I live in michigan so it’s pretty cold between 20-40 f everyday. The house is clean and in excellent shape with a brick exterior. All hardwood floors some rugs. The moths are small about 1/4 to1/2 inch in size. The previous owner is from korea and the moths are not like any i have seen before. Could they be some exotic spieces from there? I probly kill about five a day and they just don’t stop they just keep coming.
