Question by BrandonThomasWasHere: How the bloody hell do I get rid of these moths?
Okay, I live in Colorado, and every spring moths become a big issue. These aren’t food moths, and I’ve yet to find any traces on clothing. Mostly, they just accidentally get in through the front door as someone walks in. But it’s getting ridiculous. I’ve already killed nine today, and I know there’s at last two more in the house, and this has been one of the quieter days of the last week. I don’t wanna use mothballs, cuz they smell bad, they’re toxic, and this is only about a month long issue. But not much seems to be working. I read somewhere that they hate herbal smells, so I put clove and rosemary oil about everywhere I could. Then about five came out of hiding and went to the nearest window, but now it doesn’t seem to do much. I have a cedar bar in my closet, but it’s about two years old. However, i haven’t found a moth in there.

I hate moths, they are so annoying. I’m always worried they are going to lay eggs and eat my clothes. (My very favorite jacket was already RUINED by moths over night.)

So I found moth traps at Walmart Supercenter. They work like a charm!!! They are all natural, non-toxic too.

It looks like this: http://www.doyourownpestcontrol.com/ProPest_Pheronet.JPG

The inside is all glue. When the moths land, they get trapped there forever. And they are attracted to the trap because it has mating scents inside. So they all flock there. Every morning there is tons more moths in the trap. (I also bought the same thing, but for spiders. In BC, we get monstrous-sized spiders running on the floor. The trap works great for them too.)

Question by blondewithheart: Help! Moth-Like holes in my shirts!!?
For the past couple of years I keep getting mysterious holes in my shirts. They are different brands, expensive and cheap, old and new. They look similar to moth holes but are very small and towards the bottom of all my shirts. I keep them in a closet AND in drawers, I’ve tried the cedar planks but the fact is in my region we don’t even have those types of moths! I thought perhaps my laundry detergent or something, I only just recently switched, but I’m simply tired of finding holes in brand new shirts I just purchased to wear to work. Can anyone help me solve the mystery- it’s driving me bonkers!!! Some facts in case it helps:

I live in South Texas- people here haven’t even heard of moths eating clothes.
I use gentle detergent on a gentle cycle.
All my shirts are various brands, old navy, kohls, american eagle and the like.
No one else in my house seems to be having this problem….

If not moths, then silverfish can eat holes. If not that, then is something caustic coming in contact with the clothes somehow?

Question by ♥phoenixed♥: School dance, but I’m sick, now I’m upset. Make me feel better?
Basically, yesterday I went to an amusement park (Cedar Point) with some friends. I felt awful the entire day, my day lasted from 4:30am-10:30pm because of the drive. I was okay until I woke up the next morning. Sun poisoning had set in, and I have a fever, dizziness, sickness in general, etc. All that good old stuff. I never even wanted to tell my parents that I felt bad. I’m missing school. The school policy is, if you miss school that day, you cannot go to the dance that night. This dance is a HUGE deal. It’s only for my grade, and it has been months in preparation, and I have been waiting basically the whole year for it. I have been on multiple dress shopping trips, talked over how we will do hair and makeup with friends, gone tanning, everything! The dance would be filled with dancing (of course), free food, wii, pingpong, the whole lot. At the end of the dance we even get our new tee-shirt, it’s really cool and we only get it if we attend the dance. All the staff stressed over how important and great it will be. Now that I’m in bed, I’m not at school, and have to miss this dance. I have been crying, I’m really upset. I had this dance dress laid out over my closet for months. I just need some help getting over this. Please?

Here is some good info on What are these Small Flying Brown Insects on my closet walls?

cedar blocks closet:

Question by Matt: What are these Small Flying Brown Insects on my closet walls?
They are about 1/3 of an inch in length. No long antennas. They fly. When not flying they look like a long slim piece of rice, but light brown. They are a slim in length shape. Their color is close to a caramel color, but maybe light browner. Really close to the middle layer of this toffee: http://www.coraleecandies.com/marketplace/images/productphotos/toffee.jpg

There was one, then I killed it, then there two and I kill them, then there were 3 and I killed them. It seems to stay steady between 1-3 per day that I wake up too. They don’t get on my clothes, they are either on the ceiling or the walls and they seem to just migrate to my closet.

I’d really like to know what these are so that I can prevent a big breakout of them. I live in utah in the downtown area. I’ve never seen these bugs outside on the walls of the condominium building. I am really confused to what they are.

I have had cedar balls in my closet for a while now(months). Also a cedar block hanging. These don’t look like moths, their wings are much slimmer than a moth.

Answer by John I
Home centers have kits for this but if he can build a wall he can do it. Four walls or 3 if against existing watt and take it to existing ceiling. You can buy cedar wood panels to line the walls with, not a hard project.
