Question by jennifersthegreatest: Painting or re-staining an antique cedar wardrobe, bad idea? Tips? Suggestions?
I have my husbands grandma’s cedar wardrobe which appears to be shellacked or clear sealed some how. We are wanting to put it in the nursery for our baby that will be here in March but we have an all white beach cottage look going on in there.
Would it be terrible of me to paint it? I was considering crackle paint.
Thoughts, suggestions, tips?

If it is antique, painting would reduce its value to a wooden apple box. In otherwords nothing.

Question by greatnavyday: How can I match two different types/ages of cedar?
I am working on an old cedar wardrobe that my mom picked up at a flea market. The goal was to make a display cabinet out of it. It had two doors on it, but I cut out the doors and built a large “picture frame” type door that I will be putting glass in. My problem is that the cabinet is made of a red toned (western?) cedar while the cedar that I used for the doors is more blonde with very little red pigmentation. I saved some scrap so that I could match my stains, but as I think about it, I wonder if there is a way to do this other than mixing stains and trial and error. Any advice would be appreciated.

i would start out by trying mahonogy stain. it has a red tint to it. u can thin it out to make it lighter by adding clear. Good luck

Question by Clumsy: How can I kill that bloody moth?
Some moth has been fluttering around my house for the past 12 hours and I can’t seem to track it down long enough to move in for the kill. I fear it will find its way into my finest linens. Thankfully my wardrobe is safely housed in cedar armoires. Still my linens are in serious danger. Any advice?

uh, turn off all the lights and light a candle…..then kill him when he heads over to the flame, he might even fly into the flame and be horribly burned to death. Also, I would suggest you man up and not use words like armoires and linens while talking about how a moth has out smarted you for 12 hours.

Question by Thalia T: wardrobe closet smell?
ive recently had a Built in wardrobe closet built in my home, it is built in good wood. It was stained and some kind of polyurithane for a low shine… this is the problem, id like to place my comforters sheets and so forth in the closet, bit it has this smell to it that i’m afraid that whatever i store in it, will p/u that smell.. I spend alot of money on downy fabric softners and bouce sheets in the dryer.. results are great but will it smell like that when i store it in the closet…..????? Ive considered cedar chip balls… rubing it down with lemon pledge and even storing bars of strong soap like irish spring… any suggestions
am i on the right track….

several things you can try…place some frabic sheet inside the wardrobe, moth balls, smell goods that you can hang inside…cedar chips and lemon pledge will help…

it has the newness still on it..will take a while for the smell to go away..
